WMU Missions
Would You Help A Child Go
To Camp?
The WMU is asking for contributions to help our children defray some of the cost of a week at Crossroads Camp. Like everything else, camp costs have gone up. A week now costs $260. Expensive?
Yes! But the life changing “mountain top” experience is priceless! Summer sessions begin in mid-June, so we need funds as soon as possible. Checks should be made payable to NRBC, directed to WMU. Cash donations should also be designated to WMU.
Standing Rock Reservation
The WMU of VA is collecting items for mission teams to take to Standing Rock Reservation in the Dakotas this summer. They are asking for NEW shoes, socks and underwear of all sizes for children and adults. If you would like to be involved in this project you may bring any of these items to the church during May and June. We will deliver them to the WMUV office in time for the trips.
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY DAY
Children and leaders met at North Run to create “encouragement” posters for the students at Maude Trevvett Elementary School on Saturday, February 18th, and then delivered them to the school, along with 565 individual packets of healthy snacks. Thank you, North Run congregation, for contributing to this ministry project! The children also wrote messages on the sidewalks outside the school, and had a great time experiencing “joy in serving Jesus”.

FOCUS ON WMU :
WOMAN’S MISSIONARY UNION VIRGINIA SINCE 1874, ‘TIL JESUS COMES
Women have actually organized missionary societies in America as early as 1800, the first being in Boston. “Our watchword is Union – not so much union with each other but union with Christ” (Fannie Heck, 1899)
This year’s critical issue nationwide is: PROJECT HELP: HUMAN EXPLOITATION – The unethical, selfish use of human beings for the satisfaction of personal desires and/or profitable advantage.
The six issues include:
* Exploitation of natural resources for personal gain
* Bullying; cyber-bullying, queen bee bullying
* Human trafficking – labor
* Human trafficking – sex
* Media’s exploitation of children and families
* Pornography and sexting
Why should the church be involved in such a heavy topic? Because that is where the church should be, addressing issues that damage the work of God in the world. Our attitudes need to be transformed from “The problem is too big and too dark for us” into “Nothing is too hard for God.”
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners” Isaiah 61: 1*God anoints, equips, and sends us out*God pours into us His words to proclaim freedom.
*God directs our hands to serve in His name.
Pick up a copy of “Engage” from the hall table. Become informed and involved in any way you can.
